The Difference Between CNC Bending Machines And Folding Machines

The folding machines is a simple bending machine, which can be manual or motorized. The simple method is to use a model with a bending radius to firmly fix the steel plate on the machine tool table. The protruding part of the material is placed on another table, which can rotate along the center of the bending radius. When the movable table rises, it bends the stainless steel to the required angle. Obviously, when bending, stainless steel slides on the workbench. Therefore, in order to prevent scratches on stainless steel, the surface of the workbench must be smooth. In the actual processing process, a plastic film is usually used to protect the stainless steel surface.

1. Different principles:

The bending machine does not control the upper and lower knife pressure to control the bending angle. When the colleague is bending, the short side is included, and the operator needs to hold up most of the external materials. When bending large workpieces, two or more are required. More staff assistance.

The workpiece principle of the folding machine is that after the plate is placed flat on the worktable, the pressing beam is pressed down to fix the plate, and the folding beam is turned up and down to realize this side. In all the processes of one side, no manual labor is required. Participate in positioning and auxiliary turning and positioning work.

2. The difference in bending accuracy:

The dimensional accuracy controlled by the bending machine is the dimensional accuracy of the short side of the back gauge positioning. After the bending is completed, the error accumulates to the hollow size. At the same time, the bending angle is controlled by controlling the lower pressure of the upper die. Thickness is related.

The dimensional accuracy controlled by the folding machine is to use this edge as the positioning reference after completing a folding. The controlled size is exactly the inner hollow size required by the customer. At the same time, the bending angle is directly controlled by the flanging angle, which has nothing to do with the material thickness.

3. The problem of scratches and damage on the material surface:

When the bending machine is working, the material will produce relative movement in the lower die, and at the same time, it will leave indentations without surface protection. At the same time, when bending large workpieces, it needs to be turned and moved many times, and scratches will inevitably occur in the process.

When the hemming machine is working, no matter the blank holder and hemming beam cutter do not move relative to the material, surface damage can be completely avoided. When large workpieces are bent, because the plates are processed flat and positioned at the same time, all processing on one side of the workpiece can be completed, completely avoiding surface damage.

4. The requirements of workers’ technical level are different:

Bending machines have relatively higher requirements on the technical level of bending workers.

The programming of the folding machine can be realized by intuitively drawing with fingers or by the engineer using software to realize offline programming and using USB or network connection to import the processing program. After the programming is completed, the main work of the worker becomes simple loading and unloading work , No need for skilled bending workers.

5. Tool configuration:

When the bending machine realizes some special bending (such as arc) requirements, it needs to change the tool or transfer to another machine to realize it, which increases the transfer and temporary storage of semi-finished products.

The folding machines can be equipped with a rotatable blank holder design, and two sets of blank holder tools can be installed at the same time to realize a single station to complete all bending procedures. For arc bending or other special bending requirements, there is basically no need to change tools. It can be fully realized just by modifying the program.

6. Tool life:

Because of the relative movement of the workpiece in the die of the bending machine, the tool will be worn and needs to be maintained or replaced.

The folding machines basically avoids the relative movement between the material and the tool, and the tool is hardly worn for long-term use, which greatly extends the tool life.

7. Operating position:

The bending machine can only be operated from the front.

According to the size of the workpiece, the folding machine can be operated before and after, which is convenient for observation and use.

8. Drive system:

The press brake is hydraulically driven, which brings more maintenance work and is susceptible to environmental factors.

The folding machine adopts a fully electric drive design, which reduces maintenance workload and has nothing to do with the use environment, so as to achieve higher bending accuracy.

Conclusion:

Choosing a CNC bending machine or a folding machine should be based on the workpiece to maximize the benefits.
